Abstract: This institutional research paper investigates the role of smart cities?specifically Konza Technopolis?in supporting sustainable urban development in Kenya. It assesses how digital infrastructure, smart mobility, renewable energy systems, and innovation ecosystems contribute to environmental, economic, and social sustainability. Anchored in the framework of Kenya Vision 2030 and SDG 11, the paper examines how innovation hubs and e-governance tools enhance urban resilience, inclusivity, and climate responsiveness. It offers a comprehensive review of smart city literature, practical design elements in Konza, and associated governance challenges such as digital inequality, public participation, and accountability. The case study analyzes Konza?s performance in deploying smart grids, transport networks, green planning, and climate action strategies (e.g., SICAP) to create a replicable model for African urban development.
