Abstract: Farm animal genetic resources (FAnGR) for food and agriculture are important for millions of inhabitants of Africa and other continents. They play critical roles in economic development, food and nutritional security. The FAnGR sector in Africa faces numerous challenges; therefore, its potential has not been fully exploited to accelerate economic growth and social well-being, as well as reduce poverty, create wealth, and strengthen food security and health. Africa?s indigenous FAnGR are an invaluable treasure. They exhibit unique and rare adaptive attributes. Their value does not attract significant awareness as it is not adequately understood or acknowledged, which has contributed to the lack of concerted efforts towards ensuring their sustainable conservation, utilisation and management.
