Abstract: This report offers a deep critique of Africa?s largest onshore wind energy project ? the Lake Turkana Wind Power ? focusing on its socio-environmental implications in Marsabit County. Despite generating over 310 MW of clean energy, the project faces serious concerns around community inclusion, land rights, benefit sharing, and procedural justice. The document outlines how the lease of 607 square kilometers of communal land lacked free, prior, and informed consent. It explores strained relationships between developers, Indigenous groups, and government agencies. Critical gaps in stakeholder participation, electricity access, and job creation are dissected. Legal battles, displacement issues, and climate finance accountability are explored, with special attention to marginalization of local populations such as the Rendille, El Molo, and Turkana. The report presents participatory energy frameworks and rights-based approaches to promote equitable renewable energy transition.
