Abstract: This policy brief provides evidence on the presence of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in recycled plastic products in Kenya. Monitoring by CEJAD shows high levels of PCBs, dioxins, and paraffins in consumer goods and agricultural zones near pollution hotspots. Egg samples from Nairobi record POP concentrations over 100 times higher than EU limits. The document outlines chemical exposure risks through open burning and recycled plastics, and critiques Kenya?s weak legal screening frameworks and regulatory enforcement. Proposed reforms include mandatory chemical disclosure, stronger KEBS/NEMA oversight, and alignment with Basel Convention guidelines. The brief urges Kenya to take leadership in international plastic treaty negotiations and establish a national law for toxics transparency.
