Abstract: This Draft East African Standard (DEAS 1214:2024) sets minimum energy performance and labeling criteria for household refrigerators, freezers, and refrigerator-freezers. It applies to electrically-powered vapor compression appliances ranging from 10L to 1500L. The standard defines energy consumption formulas, labeling design, refrigerant safety classification, and test protocols. It also includes regional comparisons, worked examples, and market surveillance guidance. The goal is to harmonize energy standards across EAC countries to reduce emissions and promote climate-smart appliance design.
