Abstract: This research investigates grassroots-led urban farming projects in Nairobi?s informal settlements. Using the Resources-Rationales-Relations (RRR) Framework, it analyzes how limited resources, community needs, and stakeholder relationships drive local sustainability transitions. The thesis focuses on climate-smart farming methods such as hydroponics and vertical planting systems that are compatible with dense urban settings. It identifies key actors including youth groups, intermediaries, and civil society organizations who facilitate technical and financial support. The study finds that community engagement and informal networks play a vital role in overcoming policy barriers and infrastructure limitations. It also documents how these initiatives contribute to improved food access, income generation, and climate adaptation. Through rich qualitative data and case studies, the research offers a grounded perspective on how social innovation can emerge from marginalized urban contexts.
