Abstract: This factsheet presents the UNDP-led Drought Response and Resilience Building in Kenya project, implemented between March 2023 and June 2024. Aligned with Kenya?s national priorities and climate adaptation strategies, the project aims to transition from reactive humanitarian assistance to sustainable, climate-resilient development in 23 ASAL counties. Core components include rehabilitation and solarization of 25 strategic water systems in counties such as Turkana, Garissa, Marsabit, Wajir, and Mandera?benefiting 75,000 people and 200,000 livestock. The initiative also promotes hygiene practices in schools and health centers, enhances climate-smart agriculture for 1,000 households via solar-fed irrigation systems, and strengthens early warning systems and disaster governance. Implemented through multi-stakeholder platforms involving national agencies, county governments, and communities, the project ensures inclusive participation and long-term sustainability. It integrates WASH, food security, and institutional capacity-building to bolster resilience against drought and other climate shocks.
