Abstract: This government document maps and promotes eight desert safari circuits located in the arid and semi-arid regions (ASALs) of Northern Kenya, highlighting their tourism potential and ecosystem diversity. The mapped destinations include Chalbi Desert (Marsabit), Nyiri Desert, Kaisut/Suguta Valley (Turkana), Turkana Desert, Maralal Desert (Samburu), Ngurunit Desert (Isiolo), Samburu Desert, and Magadi Desert (Kajiado). Each site is profiled with geographical extent, key tourism features (e.g., sand dunes, rocky outcrops, cultural festivals, wildlife, and eco-tourism), and connectivity. The document underscores the underutilized potential of these destinations and the importance of renewed marketing and infrastructural support. Emphasis is also placed on cultural and ecological richness, such as camel racing, community tourism, and geothermal assets, positioning ASALs as untapped hubs for sustainable tourism investment and regional development.
