Abstract: This sector report provides a detailed analysis of coastal agriculture as part of Kenya?s blue economy framework. Focusing on the six coastal counties?Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi, Tana River, Lamu, and Taita Taveta?it examines agricultural productivity, agro-climatic challenges, and opportunities for inclusive growth. It outlines the sector?s vulnerability to climate change, water scarcity, and land tenure issues while emphasizing its strategic role in reducing food poverty, boosting regional livelihoods, and alleviating pressure on marine ecosystems. The report includes spatial assessments, value chain insights (e.g., cashew, cotton, rice, horticulture), and ongoing government interventions such as irrigation schemes and climate-smart agriculture projects. It also maps governance structures, spatial planning efforts, and proposes solutions to overcome infrastructural, market, and policy barriers limiting the potential of coastal agriculture in Kenya?s transition toward a sustainable blue economy.
