Abstract: This study investigates how Indigenous and local knowledge (ILK) overlaps with scientific data regarding climate impacts on coastal ecosystems in Kenya. Centered in Shimoni-Vanga, the research analyzes rising temperatures, reduced marine biodiversity, and rainfall variability. Gendered perceptions of change are documented, revealing how women and men experience climate stress differently. Local insights, such as shifts in algal abundance and seasonal patterns, augment formal science. The study advocates for knowledge pluralism and place-based adaptation strategies with gender equity at their core.
