Abstract: This report explores the climate innovation ecosystem across five East African countries?Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Ethiopia, and Tanzania?focusing on funding flows, stakeholder linkages, and support structures. Produced by Briter Bridges, Nairobi Climate Network, and EIT Climate-KIC, it uses mixed methods to assess startup traction, investor engagement, and policy support for climate solutions. Since 2015, $2.5 billion has been raised across 165 companies, with Kenya leading in both investment and climate-tech maturity. The study maps sectoral nodes such as solar energy, clean cooking, and agri-analytics, and highlights challenges including urban centralization, language fragmentation, and limited rural outreach. Recommendations target ecosystem enablers?ESOs, funders, policymakers?with calls for inclusive platforms, early-stage capital, and regional collaboration. The report also highlights gender gaps, capacity weaknesses, and data sharing deficits. Kenya?s positioning is central, offering templates for replication and transboundary climate entrepreneurship. It concludes with pathways to scale investment, decentralize innovation, and align national climate goals with private sector climate-tech strategies.
