Abstract: This report estimates the market value of Kenya?s sanitation economy in 2022 at USD 1.7 billion and projects it to grow to USD 2.8 billion with universal access. It decomposes the economy into household toilet systems, institutional sanitation services, menstrual health markets, and circular reuse flows such as compost, biogas, and protein feed. Biogas emerges as the highest-value circular output. Smart sanitation is projected to grow through sensors, digital payments, and AI monitoring systems. Methodologies include household surveys, financial modeling, and sectoral stakeholder interviews. Market gaps are identified around product affordability, informal systems, fragmented regulation, and financing. Gender equity is emphasized, with menstrual health innovation cited as a key area of underinvestment. Integration of sanitation into carbon-smart and resilience planning is encouraged. The report includes investment prioritization maps and policy pathways, designed to attract private sector engagement and development financing aligned with climate and health SDGs.
