Abstract: This roadmap highlights barriers and solutions for expanding deep-water marine research in Africa. The report stems from multi-stage workshops with 98 researchers from 19 nations, including Kenya. Key constraints include lack of infrastructure, trained personnel, funding, and governance coordination. Proposed actions span short-term measures such as institutional twinning, gender mainstreaming, and survey inclusion, and longer-term goals like data sovereignty, marine career pathways, and policy alignment with AU frameworks. Kenya?s contributions include KMFRI, Pwani University, and active ECR participation. The document links to the Ocean Decade Africa Roadmap and Agenda 2063. Data includes skill maps, gaps by discipline, and ocean literacy strategies. It emphasizes co-design of curricula and equitable partnerships.
