Abstract: This study utilizes GRASS GIS and Landsat satellite data to map wetland degradation in Kenya?s Lorian Swamp. It compares imagery from 2015 and 2023 to classify land cover changes linked to climate impacts, urbanization, and resource overuse. The analysis demonstrates the capability of automated remote sensing workflows for wetland monitoring in arid zones. It also explores geomorphological drivers in the Rift Valley and recommends GRASS scripting for scalable environmental assessment. The paper reinforces the role of wetlands in biodiversity and hydrological balance.
