Abstract: This policy presentation reviews Kenya?s waste management law in regional and international context. Anchored in the Waste Management Act (2020), it compares Kenya?s Single-Use Plastic ban to practices in Rwanda, Burundi, and South Africa. It examines Extended Producer Responsibility rules and multilateral obligations like Bamako and Basel Conventions. The draft EAC Plastic Treaty and Kenya?s Flipflopi-led regional bill are profiled. The brief critiques local enforcement challenges and lack of community integration in regulatory rollout. Recommendations include harmonized legal reforms, transparency, and equitable inclusion of waste pickers and civil society.
