World Bioenergy Association
Abstract: This flagship report presents global bioenergy data from 2020?2022 across electricity, heat, and transport sectors. Bioenergy remains the largest renewable heat source (96%), with 685 TWh electricity generated from biomass globally. Africa leads in charcoal and woodfuel, while Europe dominates renewable heat. The report covers biomass sources, regional production, trade volumes, technology evolution, CHP systems, and conversion efficiency. COVID-19 impacts on biofuel demand are noted. Waste-to-energy and co-firing contributions are analyzed. The report provides metrics for tracking progress toward low-carbon energy targets.
