Abstract: This report examines the environmental and health toll of fast fashion exports to Ghana, focusing on synthetic fiber garments dumped into informal landfills and incinerated in washhouses. Air sampling shows benzene and carcinogenic PAHs concentrations far above safety thresholds. Infrared testing confirms fossil-derived plastic fibers comprise 89% of sampled clothing. The document tracks textile waste as it degrades into microplastics in coastal ecosystems. It critiques mislabeling practices, corporate irresponsibility, and weak global waste regulations. The report outlines community-led solutions, such as upcycling and sustainable African fashion, while calling for producer responsibility legislation and bans on plastic-based textiles.
