Abstract: This fact sheet describes a collaborative environmental chemistry research project between Uganda, Kenya, and Austria aimed at remediating pollution in the Lake Victoria basin and other freshwater bodies. It explores contamination from microplastics, endocrine disruptors, and oil spills, and introduces nanotechnology-based bioremediation solutions using Moringa oleifera and other locally available materials. The initiative involves curriculum upgrades in environmental chemistry and ecotoxicology across Makerere University and Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University. Running from 2022?2024, the project fosters regional innovation, capacity-building, and technology transfer for sustainable water quality management.
