Abstract: This study presents a convection-permitting hydrological modeling system for the Tana River Basin, integrating WRF-Hydro with a lake/reservoir module. It addresses challenges of precipitation input and reservoir representation, incorporating five key reservoirs to improve discharge prediction accuracy. The simulation shows up to 76% improvement compared to baselines, with insights into sensitivity around spin-up time, infiltration, and lake parameterization. Seasonal variation and peak flow representation are enhanced, supporting more reliable water resource planning under climate variability for East Africa?s most vulnerable basin.
