Abstract: This thesis evaluates community-based ecotourism (CBET) as a conservation and development tool across Africa, with emphasis on Kenyan models like Porini in Amboseli. CBET promotes low-impact tourism, cultural preservation, and income generation. It supports forest protection (SDG 15.2), sustainable consumption (SDG 12.2), and empowerment of indigenous communities. The study highlights benefit-sharing, participatory governance, and gender equity improvements. Challenges include weak policy support, income gaps, and tourism dependency. Using thematic analysis of five peer-reviewed studies, it positions CBET as a hybrid solution balancing biodiversity, climate resilience, and community livelihoods, especially in ASAL regions.
