Abstract: This overview summarizes the Global South-South Development Expo 2013 held at UNEP Nairobi, themed on inclusive green economies and poverty eradication. Over 1,500 delegates attended, including ministers, UN officials, private sector, civil society and research organizations. It catalogues Southern-grown solutions for environmental planning, low-carbon agriculture, clean energy, green employment, and waste management. Kenya?s case studies included geothermal investment and community-led clean cooking. The document outlines 16 MoUs signed and $450 million pledged for scaling SS-GATE solutions. Roundtables and solution forums featured Brazil, China, Egypt, Ghana, Indonesia, and Kenya. Expo outputs included cross-country partnerships, impact funds, co-investment structures, and institutional twinning models. The document highlights city-level planning, gender mainstreaming, and ecosystem restoration as integrative entry points. It concludes with recommendations for stronger South-South platforms, decentralized governance, and policy transfer mechanisms connecting global forums with local transformation.
