Abstract: This study examines the effectiveness of plastics reduction strategies adopted by hotels and lodges in Kenya?s hospitality sector following the COVID-19 pandemic. Conducted in Nairobi, Nakuru, and Naivasha, the research evaluates initiatives across four operational zones: guest rooms, dining areas, front desks, and conference facilities. Through surveys and structured interviews, it was found that over 75% of establishments had formal reduction policies, yet fewer than half conducted periodic plastic audits. COVID-19 hygiene protocols had temporarily reversed gains, prompting increased single-use plastics. However, many facilities transitioned back to sustainable practices post-pandemic, including refillable dispensers, biodegradable room keys, bulk-purchased condiments, and green procurement strategies. The study identifies key implementation barriers such as financial limitations, supplier resistance, and inconsistent waste tracking. Recommendations include establishing supplier alliances, enhancing monitoring protocols, upgrading infrastructure, and aligning with national waste management policies to ensure measurable reductions and sustainability across Kenya?s tourism sector.
