Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives (GAIA)
Abstract: This guidebook offers a strategic toolkit for grassroots campaigns around the Global Plastics Treaty. Developed by GAIA Africa, it includes downloadable messaging templates, tour activations, policy briefings, and CSO mobilization strategies. It profiles impacted communities?such as Nakuru and Turkana?and explains the health risks of plastic additives like BPA and PFAS. The guide critiques false solutions like chemical recycling and waste-to-energy, while mapping advocacy touchpoints across treaty negotiations. It calls for inclusive zero-waste pathways rooted in justice, safety, and lifecycle responsibility. With framing rooted in UNEA 5/14 resolution, it empowers civil society with resources for effective treaty engagement and regional activism against plastics pollution.
