This study explores the opportunity of converting domestic wastewater into biogas in Sub-Saharan Africa, tackling the nexus of water treatment, energy access, and circular economy. Using World Bank data, the analysis quantifies regional sludge generation and estimates biogas yield via anaerobic digestion (AD). Innovations such as biochar enhancement, membrane filtration, and sludge recycling are discussed. Constraints include lack of infrastructure, public awareness, and policy guidance. The authors argue for the integration of biogas harvesting into national sanitation and energy strategies. Ethiopia and DRC are among highlighted countries with massive potential for energy recovery. It also covers health risks, organic pollutants, and ways to comply with SDGs.
