Abstract: The Turkana County Strategic Environment Action Plan (2020?2024) presents a comprehensive roadmap for integrating environmental sustainability into regional development planning. Framed through a participatory process involving public, private, and civil society stakeholders, the Action Plan addresses a wide spectrum of environmental challenges such as deforestation, land degradation, climate change impacts, biodiversity loss, water resource depletion, and pollution. The document is structured across eleven chapters that span critical thematic areas, including climate change adaptation and mitigation, conservation of forests and grasslands, sustainable agriculture, gender and poverty linkages to environmental vulnerability, and emerging threats like invasive species and refugee influx. It emphasizes localized resilience-building measures, policy enforcement strategies, community awareness, and intergenerational equity. Moreover, it aligns with broader national goals like Kenya Vision 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), proposing actionable interventions backed by legislative frameworks such as EMCA (1999). This plan serves not only as a strategic tool for environmental governance but also as a catalyst for inclusive, equitable, and sustainable development across Turkana County.
