Abstract: The IGAD Climate Adaptation Strategy (2023?2030) sets out a regional framework to enhance resilience and adaptive capacities across IGAD member states?Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, and Uganda. Anchored in evidence from the IPCC?s Sixth Assessment Report and informed by regional climate vulnerabilities, the Strategy identifies key climate risks?including droughts, floods, displacement, and biodiversity loss?and proposes eleven priority action areas to address them. These include enhancing climate information services, scaling nature-based solutions, strengthening early warning systems, and coordinating adaptation governance across borders. Special focus is placed on the needs of ASAL regions and marginalized communities, including women, youth, and displaced persons. It promotes climate-smart agriculture, green infrastructure, ecosystem-based adaptation, and the use of AI for risk assessment. The Strategy seeks to harmonize regional action with global frameworks like the Paris Agreement and the African Union?s Agenda 2063, while also operationalizing IGAD?s own Climate Strategy and Disaster Risk Management Plan.
