County Government of Tana River
Abstract: This Climate Change Action Plan (CCCAP) for Tana River County outlines strategic priorities for adaptation and mitigation from 2023 to 2027. Informed by participatory consultations and climate vulnerability assessments, the plan identifies critical threats such as frequent droughts, floods, invasive species, and saltwater intrusion. Key sectors addressed include agriculture, water, biodiversity, sanitation, infrastructure, and energy. The document integrates components from Kenya?s National Climate Change Action Plan and the County Integrated Development Plan. It proposes a coordinated governance structure through a County Climate Change Unit, and highlights local investment in climate-proof technologies and nature-based solutions. The plan also describes mechanisms for accessing climate finance, monitoring progress, and mainstreaming climate actions across county departments. It commits to capacity building, climate literacy, and integrating indigenous knowledge systems. This plan reflects growing momentum at the county level to embed resilience and sustainability in economic development and public service delivery.
