County Government of Turkana
Abstract: This Sub-County Climate Change Adaptation Action Plan (CCAAP) outlines Turkana North and Kibish?s climate priorities for 2023?2027. Developed through a participatory process engaging local communities, national and county institutions, and international partners such as IOM, the plan addresses growing climate-related challenges including drought, floods, food insecurity, and resource-based conflict. It provides an in-depth climate vulnerability analysis, proposes adaptation and mitigation interventions, and emphasizes climate-responsive governance through Ward Climate Committees. Key focus areas include nature-based solutions, early warning systems, conflict-sensitive food strategies, inclusive decision-making, and alignment with Kenya?s NDC and Turkana County Integrated Development Plan. The plan also integrates gender sensitivity and migration dynamics, recognizing the compounded risks facing pastoralist communities.
