Abstract: This study evaluates the impact of gender-focused training on social and environmental behaviors in Makueni County under the Forest and Landscape Restoration programme funded by UK PACT. Using recall methodology, the research measures changes in gender awareness, leadership participation, and civic engagement among beneficiaries of the Mbooni Community Forest Association. Training incorporated a community dialogue model and trainer-of-trainers strategy, fostering discussions around roles, equity, and barriers faced by women and persons with disabilities. Significant behavioral shifts were observed, including higher rates of inclusive decision-making, leadership election outcomes favoring marginalized groups, and sustained restoration efforts such as tree planting. The study reveals that integrating gender equity strengthens forest conservation outcomes and enhances community resilience. Recommendations support mainstreaming gender-responsive programming in restoration initiatives and adopting bottom-up frameworks that amplify local agency and accountability.
