Abstract: This comprehensive Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) accompanies a feasibility study for an open-pit gold mining venture in Ramula?Mwibona, spanning Siaya and Vihiga counties. Commissioned by Shanta Gold Kenya Ltd, the report evaluates potential impacts across hydrology, biodiversity, air quality, land use, and socio-economic parameters. It includes baseline surveys, stakeholder consultations, and resettlement planning for project-affected persons. Key risks identified include groundwater depletion, blasting hazards, ecosystem fragmentation, and artisanal mining conflicts. The study applies IFC Performance Standards and NEMA requirements to guide risk mitigation, including community-led grievance redress mechanisms, gender-sensitive compensation schemes, and ecosystem service mapping. Additionally, human rights due diligence and youth livelihood assessments were conducted to understand vulnerable demographics. Monitoring frameworks proposed include biodiversity offsets, water quality protocols, and post-mining rehabilitation plans. The EIA serves as a critical tool for ensuring mining operations are socially and environmentally compliant.
