Abstract: This final report captures the six-year journey of Regreening Africa, a multicountry restoration programme across Kenya, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Mali, and beyond. With a target of 1 million hectares restored, the initiative leveraged agroforestry, farmer-managed natural regeneration, soil and water conservation, and community-led land use planning. Kenya?s counties?including Kitui and Bungoma?benefited through tailored interventions using the Options by Context framework. The report highlights how restoration was made locally appropriate, socially inclusive, and economically viable, impacting over 600,000 households. It documents policy engagement (including influence on CIDPs and county restoration strategies), value chain support, youth engagement, and monitoring via remote sensing. Carbon sequestration, biodiversity recovery, and increased food security outcomes were tracked. The report reflects on challenges?such as institutional fragmentation, tenure insecurity, and financing gaps?and outlines scalable solutions for other ASAL counties. It is a flagship resource for climate-smart land restoration and resilience programming.
