Abstract: The Mount Kenya Sustainable Landscape and Livelihoods Program outlines a multi-pronged approach led by the Rainforest Alliance and supported by the IKEA Foundation to restore biodiversity, enhance rural livelihoods, and build resilience in the Mount Kenya region. The program integrates five strategic interventions: (1) establishing a Landscape Management Board to unify stakeholders under a shared vision of sustainable land use; (2) promoting regenerative and climate-smart agriculture through climate risk mapping, training, and digital advisory tools; (3) engaging public and private sector actors to build inclusive governance and incentivize environmental stewardship; (4) diversifying farmer incomes through off- and on-farm activities such as fruit tree planting, livestock rearing, and renewable energy enterprises; and (5) piloting a landscape finance mechanism to sustain long-term investment. The initiative directly involves 50,000 coffee and tea farmers and 1,000 forest association members, with indirect benefits to over 250,000 additional farmers.
