Abstract: This factsheet reviews regional environmental mobility trends in the East and Horn of Africa. Using displacement tracking data, project evaluations, and ministerial frameworks, it documents how climate risks?especially droughts and floods?trigger migration in pastoralist and ASAL zones. It outlines IOM?s implementation of the Kampala Declaration on MECC and collaborative programming tied to the Africa Climate Summit. Country examples from Somalia, Burundi, Kenya, and South Sudan illustrate linkages between mobility, livelihood disruption, and climate stress. The publication examines gendered risks and youth-focused resilience interventions such as mobility-aware job creation and mental health support. It offers policy tools for integrating migration into climate planning and explains how regional coordination can reduce climate displacement vulnerability.
