Abstract: This five-year restoration plan outlines a multi-stakeholder strategy for rehabilitating degraded mangrove ecosystems in Mida Creek, Kilifi County. Developed by Kenya Forest Service (KFS) in collaboration with KEFRI, community-based organizations, and development partners, the plan targets reforestation of over 300 hectares using locally adapted mangrove species. It addresses threats such as illegal logging, land encroachment, poor enforcement of forest regulations, and saltwater intrusion. Anchored in Kenya?s Forest Conservation and Management Act (2016), the plan aligns with SDG 15 (Life on Land), the Bonn Challenge, and county development frameworks. Restoration strategies include assisted natural regeneration, community seedling nurseries, and strengthening mangrove user associations. The plan emphasizes capacity-building for fisherfolk, environmental education in schools, research on carbon sequestration, and development of blue carbon markets. Monitoring and evaluation protocols are established for tracking biomass recovery, biodiversity indices, and socio-economic benefits, positioning the Creek as a critical climate buffer and livelihood zone.
