Abstract: This national report evaluates the state of electric cooking (eCooking) adoption across Kenya, using mixed methods involving surveys from 2,432 households and focus group discussions. It reveals that while 76% of households are connected to electricity, only 25% own electric cooking appliances and fewer than 1% use them as their main cooking method. Factors inhibiting adoption include high tariffs, appliance affordability, limited public awareness, and cultural cooking preferences. The study analyzes household cooking fuels, gender dynamics, urban-rural divides, and appliance types. It also surveys supply chains, distinguishing between imported and locally assembled products, and evaluates financing mechanisms like Pay-As-You-Go (PayGo). Policy gaps are discussed with recommendations for integration into electrification planning, public awareness campaigns, and subsidies. The report underscores eCooking?s potential to reduce indoor air pollution and advance clean energy targets.
