Abstract: This county audit evaluates Taita Taveta's municipal solid waste system using UN-Habitat?s Waste Wise Cities Tool. It maps waste flows, assesses leakage of plastic waste, and benchmarks recovery rates for urban centers like Voi and Taveta. Key findings include inadequate segregation systems, lack of data on informal recyclers, and overburdened landfill sites. The report recommends infrastructure upgrades at the Chakaleri recovery site, development of data systems for waste monitoring, and stakeholder-driven plastic diversion strategies. It highlights the role of Go Blue Project partners (EU and UN-Habitat) in catalyzing circular economy transitions and proposes policy reforms including bylaws for household waste separation and investment in community education. The report supports SDG indicator 11.6.1 and reflects Kenya?s commitment to inclusive waste planning at the county level.
