Abstract: This GIEWS Country Brief assesses the food security outlook for Kenya as of June 2025. It highlights favorable crop production prospects due to above-average March?May long rains in key agricultural regions like Bungoma, Trans Nzoia, and Uasin Gishu, supporting cereal yields for the 2025 main season. Pastoral regions in the north and northeast also experienced exceptional rangeland regeneration, improving livestock body conditions and milk production. However, despite these gains, maize prices remain elevated?especially in southeastern and coastal marginal areas?due to earlier poor short rains and pest outbreaks. The report outlines a projected reduction in severe acute food insecurity from earlier IPC estimates, attributing improvements to better rainfall, pasture conditions, and food consumption scores. It concludes with implications for livelihoods, drought recovery, and regional agricultural resilience.
