Abstract: This review explores the evolution of agroforestry systems by comparing traditional, indigenous-based approaches and modern technological innovations. Traditional agroforestry relies heavily on ecological harmony, low-input farming, biodiversity conservation, and intergenerational knowledge. Practices such as mixed cropping, integrated livestock management, and native tree conservation promote ecosystem balance and resilience against climate shocks. In contrast, modern agroforestry leverages advanced tools including precision agriculture, remote sensing, genetic modification, and artificial intelligence to improve yields and resource efficiency. While productivity improves under modern systems, risks such as biodiversity loss and synthetic input dependency emerge. The review promotes hybrid models that integrate ancestral wisdom with scientific innovation, preserving cultural identity while promoting sustainable food systems. Through case studies and cross-sectoral comparisons, the study demonstrates how agroforestry offers pathways to sustainable land management, poverty reduction, and climate adaptation. Emphasis is placed on participatory scaling, policy support, and regional customization for broader applicability.
