Abstract: This peer-reviewed study explores the application of triad forest management?dividing public forests into zones for intensive timber production, biodiversity conservation, and multiple-use?in the Kenyan context. Using document analysis and qualitative case study methodology, the authors assess biodiversity outcomes and policy frameworks guiding Kenya?s forest sector. Findings reveal Kenya?s forests as megadiverse and increasingly targeted for restoration through national initiatives like the National Landscape and Ecosystem Restoration Plan (2023?2032). Despite policy gains, species populations continue to decline due to deforestation, habitat loss, climate change, and invasive species. The study argues for integrating triad zoning into public forest governance as a holistic approach that aligns ecological, economic, and social objectives. It also highlights counties like Nyandarua, Kilifi, Kwale, and Taita Taveta as key biodiversity hotspots requiring urgent investment. The paper offers practical recommendations to refine Kenya?s forest governance model by leveraging ecological zoning, community participation, and long-term sustainability plans.
