Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK)
Abstract: This themed issue, “Environmental and Climate Resilient Engineering,” gathers technical perspectives from engineering practitioners, academics, and policymakers across Kenya. Topics include GIS-based groundwater mapping in Uasin Gishu, climate-aligned irrigation policies, biomass-to-energy technologies, wastewater circular systems, and solar electrification in health infrastructure. The magazine also includes features on carbon credit ecosystems, green building materials, and nature-based flood control systems. It bridges knowledge from NEMA, universities, and county agencies, emphasizing the engineering profession’s role in actualizing Kenya’s NDCs and climate laws. Project case studies blend technical specifications with socio-economic impacts, and interviews reveal barriers to scaling climate-resilient infrastructure. Through detailed diagrams and expert commentary, the issue positions engineering as a central catalyst for sustainability, addressing both rural and urban development gaps.
