Abstract: This research investigates barriers and drivers to household solar energy adoption in Nairobi County. The study draws on quantitative data from 384 respondents, examining variables such as income level, education, awareness, grid dependency, and household energy practices. Despite high electricity penetration, uptake of solar technology remains low, with just 2.7% using solar lighting and fewer than 0.1% applying it for cooking. The analysis incorporates theoretical frameworks like the Technology Adoption Model and Social Cognitive Theory to interpret consumer behavior. It highlights systemic issues?cost barriers, lack of training, limited market development?and explores policy recommendations including awareness campaigns, subsidies, and tariff restructuring. The study also presents spatial adoption patterns across sub-counties, offering insight into demographic and geographic disparities.
