Abstract: Nature-based solutions (NbS) hold vast untapped potential in Eastern Africa, yet many prospective project developers lack the knowledge and capacity to access carbon finance and navigate complex standards and regulations. This manual supports entities in Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, and Sudan to develop high-quality NbS carbon projects. Prepared by Climate Focus and the Eastern Africa Alliance on Carbon Markets and Climate Finance (EAA) with support from VCMI, it provides practical guidance on project design, implementation, and commercialisation of carbon credits. By clarifying the project development process and promoting high-integrity carbon markets aligned with national goals, the manual aims to scale NbS activities that deliver climate, community, and development benefits across the region.
