Abstract: This report offers a comprehensive analysis of Kenya's plastic waste management sub-sector. It identifies 17 active enterprises within this domain, encompassing activities such as plastic waste reduction, recycling into new products, and conversion into energy. Despite the high value of certain plastics and the environmental benefits of effective waste management, only 3% to 8% of plastic waste in Kenya is currently recycled or reused. The study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining in-depth interviews with business representatives, financiers, and enterprise support organizations, alongside secondary research from industry reports and academic studies. Key findings highlight the sector's maturity, driven by industrial demand and supportive regulations like the 2020 single-use plastic ban. The report underscores the significant potential for investment and entrepreneurship in plastic waste management, emphasizing the need for innovative solutions and supportive policies to enhance recycling rates and environmental sustainability in Kenya.
