Abstract: The 2024 Africa Agriculture Status Report (AASR24), titled Accelerating the Private Sector for Food Systems Transformation in Africa, published by the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), examines the pivotal role of the private sector in transforming African agrifood systems. The report highlights the dynamic growth of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and upper-tier medium to large enterprises (MLEs), which handle approximately 85% and 15% of the continent?s food volume, respectively. It explores how these enterprises respond to increasing food demand driven by population growth, urbanization, and changing consumption patterns. The report emphasizes the importance of public investments in infrastructure, coordinated agro-industrial policies, and innovative financing models like blended finance to overcome challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, limited access to finance, and policy inconsistencies. It also discusses the role of agro-industrial parks (AIPs) and the need for structural and customized competitiveness to enhance food security, rural employment, and economic growth. The report concludes with policy recommendations to foster inclusive, resilient, and sustainable food systems transformation
