Abstract:Focusing on two Kenyan agricultural carbon projects, this qualitative study identifies governance issues hindering project success and explores digital solutions. It reports major challenges such as lack of transparency, gender biases, weak accountability, and limited stakeholder inclusion. Importantly, the findings ?highlight issues of transparency, gender norms and accountability? affecting carbon monitoring, and stress the role of digital tools: ?[digital tools] ensure the quality of data collection and reporting? and can ?reduce transaction costs?. The paper suggests e-extension services and data platforms to improve efficiency and participation in carbon projects.
