Abstract: In this edition of Resilient Africa, AWF emphasizes the importance of empowering African leaders to drive conservation and sustainable development from the ground up. With Africa?s rapid population growth and increasing development pressures, the continent faces pivotal decisions about balancing economic growth with environmental preservation. AWF champions African-led conservation initiatives that prioritize local agency and youth involvement, fostering inclusive dialogue among stakeholders. The issue highlights successful partnerships with African networks, such as the African Civil Society Biodiversity Alliance (ACBA) and the Africa Protected Area Directors (APAD), to scale up conservation efforts across the continent. The edition stresses that for conservation to succeed, it must be driven by African communities, with a focus on creating sustainable, community-based solutions that benefit both people and wildlife.
