Incorporating Seagrass in a Blue Carbon Initiative in Southern Kenya

The initiative, led by the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and Kenya Marine Fisheries Research Institute (KMFRI), focuses on restoring and protecting seagrasses in Vanga and Jimbo communities in Kwale County, Kenya. This effort includes selling carbon credits to generate income for community development in water and sanitation, education, and conservation efforts. Vanga and Jimbo are part of the Shimoni-Vanga joint co-management area, encompassing 7 Beach Management Units.
