Abstract: The current national installed electricity generation capacity has expanded to 2,341 MW and over 5 million customers are now connected to the national grid1 . If a modest 5% of these customers regularly use electric water heaters with an average capacity of 2 kW per heater,the total demand attributed to solar water heating would stand at 480 MW or over 20% of the total installed capacity. This illustration demonstrates the significant potential that solar water heating could play in demand side management.
