Abstract: This document provides information on the coverage of protected areas (PAs) and other effective area-based conservation measure (OECMs),as currently reported in global databases (the World Database on Protected Areas (WDPA) and World Database on Other Effective Area-Based Conservation Measures (WD-OECM)). It also includes details on the status of the other qualifying elements of Aichi Biodiversity Target 11 based on this data. These statistics might differ from those reported officially by countries due to difference in methodologies and datasets used to assess protected area coverage,differences in the base maps used to measure terrestrial and marine area of a country or territory,or if global datasets differ from the criteria and indicators used at the national level. This dossier also provides a summary of commitments made under Aichi Biodiversity Target 11,and a summary of potential opportunities regarding elements of the target for future planning. The dossier has been developed in consultation with the UN Environment Programme World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC),which manages the WDPA,WDOECM and Global Database on Protected Area Management Effectiveness (GD-PAME).
