Abstract: Anthropogenically driven environmental changes have led to a significant degradation of ecosystems across the world, thereby negatively affecting biodiversity, ecosystem services such as water and food production and ultimately human well-being. However, the understanding of these changes and of their underlying factors may not be uniform. Environmental change is a complex phenomenon which is exacerbated by the fact that drivers are dynamic, interact with each other and may be context-dependent in different social-ecological systems.
